"Mary" CHRISTmas! :)
the Christmas season is about to end, but i guess this kind of reflection is never too late anytime :) i read this Christmas reflection by Fr. Domie Guzman, SSP from the missalette: Sambuhay, Christmas day:
"We decry how the world has transformed Christmas into a highly commercialized event. Regardless of the state of the economy, people come in droves to shopping malls and supermarkets, spending hard-earned money for decor, gifts and food. To many, this great season has become synonymous with buying and selling." [..sad, but true]
...
"Let us look beyond the highly commercialized and romanticized view of Christmas and focus on this truth: God did not have to, but He became man to save us from sin and brokenness"
[the following is, i guess a beautiful part of his reflection:]
"In his book The Life of Mary, the theologian Rene Laurentin presents the Great Mystery of Christmas [Christ's Incarnation] from Mary's point of view:
The night of Christmas comes... Mary gazes on this Babe, up to this time hidden in her. Like any other mother, she discovers with awe this life made with her life, this body made of her body. This Babe exists now, on His own...For Mary, it is even more marvelous, because this Child of hers is also her God... He is a real Baby, small, awkward, weak like all babies. But this is the Creator of the world. He has not ceased being God on taking on this existence as man. He took it on without cheating, accepting all of human weakness. He feels in his body what makes little children cry... Mary has all the love that a mother has for her child... She says to herself: 'His eyes are the color of my eyes. But these are the eyes of the Son of God. His mouth has the shape of mine. He is God and He looks like me!'..."
[i can just imagine how spectacular this scene is :) i bet mothers would have a better insight on this ]
