eagle's broken wing
from the university bulletin:
Larry (Fonacier)’s injury came without warning as he drove to the basket in the second quarter. As he did and came to a stop, he collapsed on the court, clutching his left knee, obviously in great pain. He was rushed to the St. Luke’s emergency room during half-time where he underwent an MRI procedure that revealed ACL and Grade 1 MCL injuries on his left knee. Before being wheeled in, he requested the doctors to allow him to finish watching the fourth quarter of the game on television as he was more concerned about team rather than himself.
Dr. Jose Raul “George” Canlas will operate on Larry on Wednesday afternoon. Recovery and rehabilitation are expected to take 6 – 8 months. At this point, we are doing all we can to make sure that Larry gets the best possible medical and rehabilitation care. His recovery is foremost in our mind and we request the Ateneo community to continue praying for his successful operation and quick and full recovery.
Larry has remained very optimistic about the team’s chances in our succeeding games. He continues to believe that the team, of which he is co-captain (Paolo Bugia is the other co-captain), has the capability to win and go on to the championship. He has told his coaches and some of his teammates who visited or called him last night as much.
. . . .
I believe!
